On 23 October 2024, The (Emerging) Designer Awards, presented by Artedomus and The Local Projects, held its Awards Ceremony at the Menzies Bar at Shell House in Sydney. The exclusive industry event welcomed more than 100 of Australia’s most esteemed architects, designers and industry stakeholders, alongside an exciting cohort of emerging practitioners.
Tanev Muir Architects was announced the Winner of the Residential Interior category, for Yukari House. This residential project captivated the jury with its thoughtful and sophisticated design approach. The use of natural materials in darker tones, contrasted with the lightness of the walls, creates a subtle yet powerful sense of balance and openness.
The design’s attention to detail, from the rhythmic repetition of window mullions to the use of high-quality finishes, has established a sense of deliberate, refined execution. The house feels deeply connected to its natural rainforest setting while also offering moments of reflection and calm through the careful play of light and shadow.
Watch this video to hear from Alice Blackwood, Editorial Director at Artedomus and a Juror for The (Emerging) Designer Awards, as she shares why this designer and this project won the Residential Interior category in 2024. We also meet Laura Muirhead and Peter Tanevski of Tanev Muir Architects and hear from them on what it means to receive an award of this nature, at this very formative stage in their careers and business journey.
