Presented by Artedomus and The Local Project, The (Emerging) Designer Awards returns for its second year with two new categories, new prizes and free entry.
Presented by Artedomus and The Local Project, The (Emerging) Designer Awards aim to promote designers at the early stages of their design journey. Entries for this year’s awards are now open. Winners will receive the unique opportunity to be featured on The Local Project through video and stills photography coverage, a product design contract with New Volumes c/o Artedomus, and invaluable exposure to The Local Project’s global audience of keen design enthusiasts.
Launched in 2023 by Artedomus with The Local Project, the awards received an overwhelming volume of entries into its founding two categories. Winners were announced at an exclusive ceremony, attended by our closest industry friends and supporters, and hosted at the NGV Garden. In 2024 the program expands to offer Australian emerging designers two more significant ways to power up their career paths, with the introduction of the Residential Architecture and Product Design categories.

Career enhancing prizes
Winners of the Residential Interior, Residential Architecture and Commercial Interior categories each receive a comprehensive video feature worth over $100,000, as well as valuable media exposure on The Local Project to an audience of 2.8 million. The winners will be those that demonstrate potential through original design thinking, a superior approach to sustainability and performance, and a commitment to quality and innovation.
The (Emerging) Designer Awards has partnered with New Volumes to establish the Product Design category, offering one lucky winner the opportunity to have their furniture, lighting or accessory design produced and distributed by New Volumes.
The true value of both the experience and exposure is immense, as Will Rathgeber of Studio Plenty, 2023 winner of the Commercial Project category, says.
“Recognition of such magnitude, an award judged by a panel of esteemed designers I look up to, is a mix of pleasure and validation that I struggle to put into words,” says Will. “As an emerging practice, moments like this are not only a tap on the bum [‘well done!’], but a source of immeasurable momentum to continue the work that we feel is positively serving clients, our community and our creative industry.” Read more from our interview with him.
