The Sky Tips installation offered an examination of the evolution of natural materials augmented through technology and manipulated for the built environment through light, geometry, sound and surface. Sky tips are the name given to the monumental clay heaps created during the production of porcelain. Rising from below the ground to above it, they are created by excavating the earth and changing the landscape for a moment. These towering pyramids represent our evolution from agrarian labourers in thrall of the land, to industrial & technological manipulators of it, for better or worse.
Maximum large format, all natural, technical porcelain panels were employed to convey the immense nature of these inadvertent monuments while also providing a seamless surface for 3D projection mapping.
